Practical, expert-led training for nonprofit board members. Focused 30-minute sessions. Delivered by former C-Suite executives. Designed to fit your board’s schedule.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Strong nonprofits are built on strong boards. But board members, most of whom volunteer their time alongside demanding professional and personal commitments, rarely get the structured training they need to govern with confidence.
The ESC Board Excellence Series was built to close that gap.
Developed by Executive Service Corps-Florida, the series offers practical training on the governance, financial, and leadership topics that nonprofit boards face every day. Each session is 30 minutes, available via Zoom or in person, and easy to work into an existing board meeting or schedule as a standalone.
Your board members already care about your mission. This program helps them lead it.

COURSE OFFERINGS
Select the topics your board needs most. Sessions can be purchased individually or as a package.
Financial Management 101 for Nonprofit Boards
Your board members don’t need to be accountants. They do need to read a financial statement and know what they’re looking at.
This session covers the fundamentals of nonprofit finance: income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow. By the end, board members will be able to identify positive and negative financial trends, understand the state of the organization’s financial resources, and recognize how cash flow affects overall financial health.
Financial Management 102 for Nonprofit Boards
Understanding the numbers is step one. Knowing what your board is responsible for is step two.
This session covers the board’s oversight role in financial management, including executive compensation, internal controls, separation of duties, and financial risk. Board members will leave with a clear understanding of their fiduciary responsibilities and how to carry them out.
Marketing Insights: Storytelling for Nonprofit Board Members
Donors give to stories, not spreadsheets. Board members who can tell their organization’s story compellingly are among its most powerful advocates.
This session gives board members the tools to craft simple, personal, and persuasive stories that increase fundraising, deepen engagement, and build support for the organization’s mission.
Conflict Resolution for Nonprofit Board Members
Conflict within a board is not a sign of failure. Handled poorly, it is. This session gives board members practical protocols for minimizing conflict and managing it constructively when it arises, including how to create a Board Covenant that sets clear ground rules for respectful dissent and professional conduct.
Nonprofit Board Member Assessment
A board that never evaluates itself is a board that stops improving. This session explains how a structured board assessment strengthens governance and walks participants through how to conduct one effectively, interpret the results, and use them to build a stronger board.
